His Glory, our good

"God never pursues His glory at the expense of the good of His people, nor does He ever seek our good at the expense of His glory. He has designed His eternal purpose so that His glory and our good are inextricably bound together. What comfort and encouragement this should be to us. If we are going to learn to trust God in adversity, we must believe that just as certainly as God will allow nothing to subvert His glory, so He will allow nothing to spoil the good He is working out in us and for us."

~ Jerry Bridges, Trusting God

Our pastor sent this quote to us today.

Oli and I are both longing for homeownership. We were reminded of this longing more recently as it's been difficult dealing with neighbors. Moreover, I think I've grown weary of our current home's layout. There is no dining room. The dining room has always been my favourite room of any home we've lived in.

Surely, this hasn't stopped us from enjoying meals together and having friends and family over but we both desire a teeny weeny bit more space re:separate dining room. and grass without dog poop for the kids to roam and run.

But, I was also reminded of the Lord's goodness, providence, sovereignty, perfect timing, and love. No good thing will He withhold from those He loves.

Thank you Father for this home. Help us continue to be thankful, faithful, loving, joy-filled and hospitable while we are here. May we also long for our heavenly home. Knowing that homeownership still means we are exiles in this strange land, just passing through, just passing through.

How you have answered, encouraged, and strengthened us by this reminder from our pastor’s hand. The Son of Man had no place to lay His head, and yet You have blessed us with a place for us to do so. Thank you, kind and faithful Lord.
