A more excellent Anne

Anne Boleyn, though a controversial historical figure, has been credited with being a catalyst for the Protestant Reformation in England. She was queen of England in the 1530s. During her short reign she advocated on behalf of the poor and passed significant legislation to their benefit. Anne could not produce a male heir, so King Henry conspired to have her put to death on the accusations of adultery, incest, and high treason. She denied all the allegations but was sentenced to death. Until her dying breath, Anne exemplified grace and forgiveness. Anne Bradstreet was a Puritan that came from England to the New World in the 1600s. She is the first person to have had a volume of poetry published in America, and thus considered America’s first poet. She reared 8 children, was highly educated, and supported her husband, then governor of Massachusetts.
