gleanings from a pig, a spider, & a rat

"Everybody watch!" He cried.

And summoning all his strength, he threw himself into the air, headfirst.
The string trailed behind him. But as he neglected to taste the other end to anything, it didn't really do any good. Wilbur landed with a thud, crushed and hurt. Tears came to his eyes. Templeton grinned. Charlotte just sat quietly. After a bit, she spoke.

"You can't spin a web, Wilbur, and I advise you to put the idea out of your mind."
White, pg. 58

It was a Sunday afternoon.
The kids and I were sitting in the car, waiting, as Oli Picked up ma's birthday cake from Publix so we could head to her house and celebrate.

The children have a special talent for staring at people. As if the longer and harder they stare, the closer they get to discerning who it is they are looking at.

Someone walked by. I noticed.
It was a man dressed as a woman. Full wig, high heels, make-up, skinny jeans. But nevertheless, a man. They noticed too. And stared.

Chomp, who has all the tact of a 5 year old, asked, "Mommy, what is that?"
I answered, "a man dressed as a woman."

Silence.

The next day, as we continued our read aloud, Charlotte’s Web, the Lord gave me an opportunity to expound upon that little scene.

"Remember when Wilbur had Templeton tie the string around his tail because he wanted to be a spider?"

A chorus of "yes."

"Well, did Wilbur become a spider because he had the string tied to his tail?"

A chorus of "no."

"Exactly. In the same way there are people who believe that by dressing and trying to act like one thing, they can become that thing. It's not true. God made that person a man. No matter how hard they try, they will always be a man. It's sad because while they can glorify Him by living as He created them, they choose to rebel. We should pray for faith and repentance forsuch people, just as we pray for others who are lost. "

"There is nothing more God-honoring than walking dutifully in your God-given role."
